About the 7th CPC pay matrix and the projected 8th CPC matrix
The 7th Central Pay Commission replaced pay bands and grade pay with a single pay matrix of 18 pay levels (19 including Level 13A). Each level has a vertical ladder of cells, and every annual increment moves you one cell down, an increase of about 3%. Level 1 starts at ₹18,000 and Level 18 (Cabinet Secretary) is fixed at ₹2,50,000.
